Preparing for Non-Musical Auditions & Four Play
In order to leave the best possible impression at your audition you need to do some preparation, as well as take stock of who you are and how you might be cast in a play or public reading. This workshop will help actors understand the ins and outs of cold reads, monologue preparation, script preparation and how to conduct themselves in the audition room. It will be led by actor/director Scott Hurst, and we may be asking some of the other directors in our membership to take part in a Question period at the end of the evening. Handouts will be available.
In this workshop participants will explore:
how to “be present” in the audition room
how to prepare a scene from the play
how to prepare for a “cold read”
how to prepare a suitable monologue
how to deal with nervousness
how important it is to listen
what to wear and how to present yourself
what you can expect in an interview
how to stack the odds in your favour
how to prepare for a callback
how to deal with rejection

The cost of the workshop is Pay-What-You-Can for SST Members and $10 for non-Members for one 2.5-hour workshop. Meet Scott Hurst (he/him/they/them)
A survivor of 48 years in professional and community theatre, Scott has earned a living as an actor, singer, dancer, director, writer and producer, and his resume includes seasons at the Stratford Festival, Charlottetown Festival, Blyth Festival, Thousand Islands Playhouse, and National Arts Centre. Locally he is known for his extensive work with The South Simcoe Theatre, Kempenfelt Community Players, Talk is Free Theatre, Theatre by the Bay, Huronia Players, and the Orillia Sunshine Festival. He's very happy to be able to offer affordable group classes and individual coaching again in Simcoe County.
