The Gravitational Pull of Bernice Trimble
By Beth Graham
Dates: February 20 - March 8, 2026
Iris Trimble is struggling to cope with the recent news that her mother, Bernice, a lively 55-year-old, has been diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s. To compound the shock of the news, her siblings are on opposite sides of the fence – Sara demands a second opinion and Peter seems completely unfazed. In the face of these tricky family dynamics, Bernice approaches it with a smile and a laugh, and most importantly, is ready to put herself first. Told with a good dose of humour while carefully addressing a sensitive topic, the story illuminates the challenges families experience when faced with this all too prevalent health issue. Nominated for the 2015 Governor General's Award. 🇨🇦
Recommended for ages 14 and up.
Colours in the Storm: The Tom Thomson Musical
By Jim Betts
Dates: April 24 - May 10, 2026
Colours in the Storm is about the life – and mysterious death – of one of Canada’s best loved painters, Tom Thomson, whose landscapes of Algonquin Park are among the most famous paintings ever done in Canada. A beautifully written work with memorable music, it is more a gallery of scenes and songs than a traditional musical. The story follows Thomson’s life and growth as a painter, from his arrival in Algonquin Park in 1912, to his tragic death in Canoe Lake in 1917. Often haunted by his artistic vision, Thomson struggles to realize his potential and to come to terms with the passions in his life, while under the spell of his magnificent surroundings. First produced in 1990 by The Muskoka Festival, Ontario. 🇨🇦
Recommended for ages 14 and up.
